community newsHotscots make GFSN Cup FinalTuesday, 21 April 2009 The Scots had to do it the hard way in a double header weekend which saw them face the same opposition away from home on the Saturday and Sunday. The fixture congestion at the end of the season saw them face the London Falcons in the league on the Saturday and the cup semi final on the Sunday. With the league game finishing 1-1 to frustrate the London side, the Sunday was to be a historic afternoon for the Scots. Having only a weary and limited squad that had travelled from Edinburgh, all seemed to be against them, including an unusually hot climate in the Capital, which saw the sun beat down on the sides during both matches. The game itself got off to a gritty start, with both sides keen to show their physical edge, however it was to be the away side to break the deadlock with some neat football. A placed pass between the centre backs saw the Captain of Hotscots through on goal and he duly slotted home for a half time 1-0 lead. The break saw the Falcons rejuvenated, and they equalised with a powerful free kick straight after the restart. Falcons then capitalised on slack defending to take the lead, before Craig Anderson struck near the end to force extra time. Anderson was the scorer again with a header in extra time to send the Scots into rapture in victory against their “Auld Enemy” and 2008 League winners the London Falcons. Manager Conor Simpson beamed with pride “I’m delighted that we’ve made it through. Very few would have given us a chance today, but we knew if we played to our strengths we were capable of a result. We weren’t afraid to change things and at 2-1 down, we had to go for it. I’m so pleased with the lads, the performance of the season without a doubt. I can’t wait for the final!” Chairman Kevin Rowe was equally ecstatic “It’s the biggest moment of the clubs history, and all this in our first full season. It was a real pleasure to be part of it today, and I’m glad we can give our supporters something to look forward too. It’ll be a tough final against Bournemouth, but if we can play like we did today, then we’ll give ourselves every chance of bringing the cup home.” Hotscots will face GFC Bournemouth in the final on Sunday 3rd May at Kingfield Stadium, the home of Blue Square Premier outfit, Woking Football Club.
